Dear Mr Clegg,
Liberal Socialism… the future we deserved, the future I wanted, the future I wished for, the future I still pray for. I voted Liberal Democrats, because I believed you would be a good influence on Labour. I did not vote to have that very vote prop up the Tories. Never again.
Beyond personality of who likes who, and who is more beautiful… in terms of policy, which is the thing that will affect me and you, 16 million people voted for a centre left future and only 10 million for the right. The centre left vote is shared between Labour and Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives have no real challenge, with which there votes could get spread. There nearest rivals for the right wing votes where UKIP who got less than a million votes. Liberal Democrats where more left (in your manifesto) than Labour in this election; so I feel cheated that my vote will go to supporting millionaire tax cuts and all the hidden benefits Tories will give to there rich chums.
With my basic understanding, I intially support the concept of proportional representation. It is not something I have considered in much detail, so would need to research; but it sounds like something I like. I have one concern, which is; poorer people in poorer areas tend to vote in less numbers than those form more afluent backgrounds. You could say its there own fault if they don’t vote, though social status does potentially give a clue to someones educational background, and possibly affect what resources including time they have to make a informed choice. I know even less about AV, though it should be considered. I personally believe Nick Clegg should get beyond his personal dislike for Gordon Brown, and do what is best for the country, including, if not especially those who voted for him and his party. I never voted for the Tory manifesto, or the Labour manifesto, though its clear as day that the Liberal Democrat manifesto which I voted for, is alot closer to that of Labour than that of the Conservatives. People could argue that the Tories got more votes. When I look at it, past the seats won, and into the number of votes cast, I see the right losing badly, and the centre left with a majority. Centre left for me is not just a word to group political parties, rather it exudes fairness. Will Conservatives make Britain more fair for the many, or more prosperous for the select few?
I believe the aim of the Conservatives is to make some kind of deal with the Liberal Democrats today (just to make sure there is no progressive alliance), and then tommorow call another election… explaining (possibly correctly) why a vote for the Liberal Democrats is dangerous (especially when they seem willing to side with the devil).
You could argue, that the Liberal Democrats, by definition aren’t centre left. That is something I like in the you guys. You are not stuck in a ideological rut.. you have a very able man in the form of Vince Cable, and he has considered what medicine Britain needs; and you guys will deliver it, whichever ideology it comes from. Your most able man, Vince Cable at this time has judged that Britain needs a centre left solution. You have a chance to follow through on your manifesto promises, by combining with the Labour Party, making a popular progressive front and deliver what Vince Cable and Alaistair Darling, believe Britain requires.

Durex for Shivling
This is a design/animation I (Ranvir Singh Bassi) created a few weeks back. To view it Click Here.
I like playing around with famous logos and brands. There seems to be too much in this world which is meant to be untouchable. The medium of “art” gives people a bit more liberty before they get sued for copyright infringement.
If you are wondering what a Shivling is, well its a stone kept in Hindu temples on which milk is poured, and rituals are performed. Not many people know this too much these days, though the Shivling actually represents and looks like a penis. It has special religous significance. Indian people are so sexually repressed now, (partly thanks to Gandhi and Christian influence) that the Shivling has been removed from the national consciousness and its not even known by most people (even the priests) that it is a spiritual representation of a penis. This artwork questions that sexual repression, and in no way do I wish to offend ancient practices. The shivling should be celebrated, though celebrated as a whole, not just as what people want to make of it.
There is a story behind this piece. It starts off with a friend sketching something he calls “Pinkle Pingu” in my sketchbook. Gave me a idea for a design, then I changed it some more, and then after a dozen more changes, I end up with a artwork from what it was originally. I didn’t intend for the Durex logo to be there, though it just fitted so I put it in. I also made some Christmas/Birthday/Present wrapping paper, based on this design. See it Below, its called Pinkle Pingu -
It is rather simplisticly and naively comparing the percieved difference between pink and black dicks. These artworks are a bit of a joke to be honest. Most my artworks are jokes. Though the artworks I make which do not process any humour are my most boring pieces, even if they are the technically the most skilled.
I don’t really know if I care, whether anyone likes my work. I like these two pieces alot. Art is personal and I am not naturally a exhibitionist. If I continue making works as creative as these, till the end of my days, I will be happy with that. They are simple compared to what I normally do, though without sounding too full of myself, I feel they are INSPIRED!

The mirror of dance

When I am infused with the sound, my joints move. Theres magic in recognising I’m the puppet. The puppeteer goes beyond the confines of my atomic body, although those very atoms are as much the puppeteer as anything else.
There is a sanskrit term, “leela”. I have witnessed it as a dance. We may witness it as anything and everything, or nothing at all. My logic is no Buddha, though what is a better representation/expression of the Tao, than a natural free flowing dance? Maybe I am thinking too simplistic.
Conventional stereotypes would suggest, that someone like me, would be unlikely to appreciate Ballet. I may have a bad memory, though after one girl, and music, nothing has touched my heart more. Maybe because sometimes ballet reminds me of that old love; the love lost. Whatever the reason it touches me and this is same guy, who would like to be a boxer and some might say already is.
Logically something percieved as so pompus, gay, pink, Snow White, upper class and frivalous should not be able to do what it does. But because there is no text, our minds fill it with a story. Consciously or more often unconciously. That story may be our own, or a aspect of ourselves, our lives and our experience. Thus ballet may act as a mirror unto our true self or emotions.
Baumhaus an der Mauer
Berlin’s most famous Treehouse

You could call it a treehouse, though its a treehouse with a longer story than most. It starts with Osman Kalin, one of many Turkish emigrants, who has left the Kreuzberg area of Berlin known as Little Istanbul. From Mr Kalin’s apartment, he saw a piece of unused land. This land, was left by the GDR (Former East Germany) during its construction of Wall. There was a bend in the border and to save on material, the East Germans, decided to just straighten the wall.
Well over time, this land, became a bit of a tip; that is until Mr Kalin, decided to use it as a garden. The East Germans, let him use the land as he was a unfortunate victim of capitalist circumstances. Ofcourse West German authorities, could not do anything about it as it wasn’t in there Jurisdiction.
Out of the garden, sprouted the treehouse. Constructed gradually from 1989, using bits of random unused materials. He even used abandoned mattresses. Today its a example of what a person can do with what society considers waste. Though its still a sturdy German construction, with a unique Turkish twist; leaving it with a reputation of being iconic building in Berlin.
Though its not its architectural uniqueness which leaves it with such a esteemed reputation. This construction and Mr Kalin, himself, went through a great ordeal to keep it standing. After re-unification and the fall of the wall, the united Berlin authorities wanted to build a road, where the wall once stood. This road would have meant, the demolition of Mr Kalin’s creation. Though he stood strong, and faced the rath of the authorities. He even feared, they would come and take his belongings away, so his response was to cement every piece of furniture to the ground.

Mr Kalin, received a saving grace in the form, of the nearby Church. Officially the Treehouse was on Church land. Under the complexities of German law, this meant the building could not be demolished without prior consent from the Church. Though consent was not forth coming. Mr Kalin lobbied the Church and because they liked his way of life and his family ethic, they decided he should stay. It is worth applaud considering the Christian estabilishment defended a Muslim family.
To this day, it is where Osman Kalin calls home, the place he raised his children, and where his grandchildren come to visit him.

Alpacho of the Mexican Dogs

This is Alpacho, commonly known by his foes as just AL.
One of the founding member of the notorious Mexican Dogs, whose exploits include supplying guns and ammunition to the 5 nation strong, Iroquois Confederacy, which at the time was under the command of the great Native American leader, Hiawatha. Though all their exploits where not always as noble. Once the battle against the Europeans was lost, the Mexican Dogs headed back south and made a habit of killing men, and robbing banks. Their are rumours, they where under the pay of the Mexican Government to keep the old enemy, Texas as wild and untamed as much as possible.

Indian Independance was the Death of Punjab?
Today many Indians will be celebrating Independence Day. Many will see it as the day they gained their right of self determination. Though there are some who will be less happy.

The British plundered the subcontinent of India, right until the end. Before Britain conquered the subcontinent, the northern areas of the subcontinent, accounted for 25% of the entire global economy. After Independence, the subcontinent as a whole accounted for a fraction of that.

To see some more information on how the Indian Subcontinent used to be before the British check link

Of course it was great that Britain was finally kicked out the subcontinent, although what was left behind was something which can never be admired. Hundred of thousands of Punjabi’s died during the turmoil of partition and millions of people lost everything they owned forcibly having to relocate. Punjab, my ancestral home land, was torn completely. Lahore, the great capital of the Sikh Empire and important financial centre, was lost to Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus. They say a Jatt (an ethnic group) would rather die than leave his land and indeed many did die.

Now to the point that many people ignore. The idea of India is a British invention. Indeed “India” could be word invented by the British, as the common term before the British arrived for the subcontinent, was Hind. “India”, was once a collection of many different nations, with many different ethnic groups and multiple dozens of languages, with the same broad diversity of Europe. Indian Independence day was the death of these national identities, instead replacing it with newly invented false identity of this newly established India.

The Indian side of Punjab was once again cut up after partition, by the creation of two new states on Punjab territory. Haryana was created in south Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh was created towards the east in the mountainous Himalayan region of Punjab. Shimla the former summer capital was now lost. Punjab is now a fraction of its former size. It accounts for 2% of Indian land mass, though it is without doubt the largest Indian breadbasket as it accounts for most home grown food.

It is unfortunate that the former Governments of India have often been anti-Punjabi, in an attempt to destroy the Punjab Nation which possibly they see as not concurrent with this new Indian identity.
Punjab during the 90′s had 6 times the GDP per a person, than any other state, along side Maharashtra. Although today, Punjab receives very little development, in terms of modern technologies, in comparison to other states.

During periods in the 70/80′s Punjabi’s where refused the right to vote in elections, under the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. It would be fair to call Indira Gandhi a dictator then surely? Punjab was the only state, who’s people where not allowed to vote. Though today many Indians, hold Indira Gandhi in great regard, whilst totally disregarding her actions.

Even the state capital of Punjab is not even in Punjab. The state capital of Punjab is in the union territory of Chandigarh where only 10% of the population are Sikh (many probably politicians) and the primary language is Hindi and not Punjabi. Chandigarh was a new city built by the treacherous former Prime Minister, Nehru in an attempt to decentralize power, from Punjabi’s and specifically Sikh’s.
The education system is also biased against the national language of Punjab, which is Punjabi, and instead favours a language which is alien to Punjab called Hindi.

It is a common belief that the Indian government and intelligence services still have an active operation to destabilize Punjabi political parties. Without doubt they did for sure during the 70/80/90’s.
The Indian government, have also siphoned off some of the rivers in Punjab to other states with giant man-made canals. Punjab depends on the rivers for agriculture, and because the actions of the Indian government, the water table in Punjab has dropped dramatically. Agriculture is the main income source in Punjab. UN agencies, expect the bread basket of India to become arid and un-farmable land, because of this. A humanitarian catastrophe is expected.

The most obvious example of Indian repression on Punjab was the military attack on the spiritual centre of Sri Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple) complex in 1984 under the command of the dictator, Indira Gandhi. The Golden Temple is considered a Holy place for Sikhs, though if you go there, many the people you would see are Hindu’s from all over India. Once upon a time (and for some still now), it was also a special place for Muslims. In previous centuries, only Muslim musicians from the ancestry of Guru Nanak’s best friend Mardana (who was a Muslim), where allowed to perform in Sri Harimandir Sahib. The Golden Temple was a place where all people came and still come together.

The Indian Army launched an offensive to attack this site, in an attempt to capture a Sikh human rights observer and commentator who had taken refuge in the Akaal Takht (which is within the Golden Temple complex). Though in reality it was all an excuse, as Sant Jarnail Singh Bindranwale, was in Police custody just 4 days previous to the attack (according to a Supreme Court Judge of Singapore). If they wanted to kill him, they could have done it then.

The Indian Army attacked Sri Harimandir Sahib Complex during a religious festival when there would have many more pilgrims than usual. The offensive was called Operation Bluestar by the Indian Army. Thousands of innocent men, women and children died. The Akaal Takht which is the parliament of the Sikhs and the highest temporal seat was destroyed. The holy pool was filled with blood. The entire Golden Temple Complex was bullet ridden.

The excuse Indira Gandhi gave for the attack was that she was trying to capture terrorists. But how can anyone who hasn’t killed anyone be called a terrorist. You couldn’t even call Sant Jarnail Singh Bindranwale a separatist, as he never called for Punjab to separate from the union of India. All he asked was for the human rights violations to be addressed.
During the attacks all TV and electricity was cut in Punjab. This was so the people wouldn’t find out what was happening. When the media did start again, the governments grip manipulated reports to create an immense amount of confusion as to what actually happened.
A few months later, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two Sikhs. But what happened later was an even bigger stain on Indian Democracy. Mob’s organized by politicians ran through the streets of Delhi, murdering and raping Sikhs. Thousands more died. The politicians are still free, and still in active politics. Out of the thousands of people in mobs not one person had been put on trial. The Delhi Police, just watched, even possibly actively taking part. There has been no justice.

The Delhi Genocide.

Then of course there are the actions of the Punjab Police during the 80’s and 90’s. Tens of thousands more died. After the attack on the Golden Temple, only then did a quite large selection of Punjabis desire independence. The Indian Government crushed the freedom movement by crushing all Sikhs, quite literally. Punjab during this time was very unsafe. Police killed innocent people in what is now known as false encounters. They would kill an innocent person, and then falsely accuse them of being a militant. The family of the murdered was very often tortured, and raped. You can find many accounts of this.

There are also claims that Punjab Police launched an operation called Bandi Chor, where Hindu Police Officers would go and rape Sikh women. No doubt there was rape on a relatively large scale, though if it was a targeted operation, I can not confirm.
I recommend that you do not take my word, and instead do your own research. There is a lot of information available, though institutions like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch where banned from entering Punjab by the Indian Government. The fact that the Indian Government banned them, says plenty in itself.

Many Indians would call Sant Jarnail Singh Bindranwale a terrorist. But in my research suggests he killed no one, didn’t speak hate, and definitely was not a Separatist, as he never asked for Independence from India.
Today there is a big influx of drugs into Punjab. I know politicians in Punjab through family ties, and I know the type of people they associate with. It has been suggested that political families are involved in the drug trade, and it wouldn’t surprise me. Politics is very ugly in India.

Recently a prominent human rights activist called Ram Narayan Kumar, died. He was a Hindu Punjabi, and was equally appalled as to what happened in Punjab. The Indian Government might think they attacked a select community in Punjab, but in reality they attacked the whole of Punjab. The definition of religion is very loose in Punjab. People never used to call themselves, Hindu, Sikh or Muslim. Religious beliefs in Punjab where very much amalgamated and it was a great collective fusion.
I do not want Punjab too leave India. I don’t think most Punjabi’s want to leave India, otherwise it would have happened by now. Rather, there should be much more autonomy, as was agreed by Punjabi’s when they agreed to enter the union of India. I believe states should have strong powers, similar to German system, where the individual regions, are very powerful.

Maybe I am being uber naïve, but if theirs enough compassion, I think things will be alright.
Poem ~ All is fire, in Passions Kiln
All is fire, in passions kiln; whilst drying my green lumber.
From felling too now, she the sawmill hungers.
Debarking my soul, to take its control.
Extracting my core, to taste its furor.
All is fire, in passions kiln; whilst baking my malted barley.
The grains from which soon whiskey pour.
Brews my nectar, as her sheath takes its sword.
Then sprouts my spore, we germinate once more.
All is fire, in passions kiln; whilst fusing my ferrous earth.
Her heat bellows with countless a gasp.
Smelting my ore, to loosen emotion.
Scraping my scrap, to bestow my beings best potion.
All is fire, in passions kiln; whilst firing my potters clay.
Her hands caressed, my now splendid display.
Baking my body, to make the changeless change.
After tending my senses, with her artistic play.
All is fire, in passions kiln; whilst burning my soon burnt body.
Cremated I will lay, just dust today.
My parched heart, all but vapor in her minds cloud.
Beatless its beat, howbeit for her it beats.
